Finding stylish and affordable maternity wear

If you’ve got a baby on the way, you’ve undoubtedly had (or will have) at least some frustrations with the changes in your body. Looking good and sticking to the styles you are used to, isn’t as simple as it was before, or at least it feels that way. Of course you already know that there is a dynamic range of choices with regards to different types of maternity wear, but I’m sure you are also acutely aware that, with the cost of preparing for your baby, you can’t exactly splash out on expensive new clothes for yourself especially when the length of time you’re wearing them is only short.

The good news is that maternity wear doesn’t have to cost you a fortune. Dressing your changing body in comfortable clothes that look good on you can be done cheaply enough that it won’t affect any of your other plans. So, here is my guide to looking good no matter what occasion, not so much on a shoestring, but at a very reasonable cost.

Praise and adapt your style, you know how to shop
Just because your body has changed a bit, it doesn’t mean your regular style won’t work. You’ve probably gotten good at finding great deals on clothes before, so you shouldn’t have trouble finding quality discounted maternity clothes. Look for dresses or leggings in shades and hues that you’re used to. If you usually love wearing colour, don’t shy away from it during your pregnancy. It will accentuate your blooming beauty and bring out all your best curves. Jeans are brilliant if you invest in a good and comfortable pair. They can be worn just about anywhere and a good pair will keep you comfortable while working with your shape. Shopping online for maternity wear will probably find you a better selection than stores would.

What not to avoid
Pregnant women are constantly being told that they should avoid patterns and designs, because they do nothing for your figure. I disagree. There are cases where this is true, but if you avoid too much negative space and varied patterns then there’s no reason to wear bland clothing. Besides, what’s going on in your body is a miracle, if you’re dressing down to hide it, then you’re not doing it right. A lot of women also feel they need to dress more conservatively when they are pregnant, but in fact this is not the case. Low cut tops, and open shoulders are great for framing the face and keeping you comfortable.

Keep it comfy
Thanks to the changes and hormones you’re currently experiencing, your body may tend to overheat and feel discomfort due to water retention. Wearing clothing that is light, cool, and breathable is important, especially if you live in an area where the climate is hot. The closer you come to the big day, the more you will feel these effects. So if you are in the early stages of your pregnancy, don’t assume that this won’t happen.

Consider your needs
I remember when I was pregnant, one of the most stressful things about choosing an outfit, was choosing something that suited my needs as a pregnant woman. One of the reasons that maternity wear is a thing is that as a pregnant woman, you do, and will have different needs than before. The pressure your baby is constantly putting on your bladder is a fairly big deal, because it means you will need to use the ladies room more frequently. If you are pregnant the last thing you want is to have to undo an array of belts, zips and buttons every time you go to the bathroom, it can sometimes be a little difficult to deal with all these things before your bladder wins the argument. So clothing should not only be comfortable, but it should also be convenient. Not paying attention to your needs could lead to a lot of unnecessary stress and embarrassment during a pregnancy.
