The Brighton Fringe Festival
Held between the 3rd of May and 1st of June this year, BrightonFringe is the biggest arts festival in England and one of the biggest fringe festivals in the world, needless to say it's pretty special. Showcasing lots of home grown talent and featuring a huge variety of acts from every different art form you can possibly think of, it's a great event to visit. There's even an opportunity to experience Brighton Fringe for free at Fringe City, which will be held on the 3rd, 4th, 10th, 17th and 24th of May. Fringe City will feature everything from puppet acts and comedy to children's workshops and cabaret - there's even a family picnic being held in the Pavilion Gardens, with the opportunity to try out a huge inflatable assault course, which the kids will love.
The Brighton Festival
This huge arts festival, held between the 3rd and 25th of May this year, is incredibly popular and showcases the very best of the arts. With a variety of performances and even some suitable for those on a budget, with free and £10or less performances, it's a festival that is accessible to everyone. Some of the great acts and events you'll find there this year are the children's parade on the 3rd, Angela Hewitt, one of the best pianists in the world, African Dance Project and Cat Power, among hundreds of others.
The Great Escape
Europe's hottest new musicfestival, hosting over 400 bands in 35 venues across the city, comes to Brighton between the 8th and 10th of May. Brighton comes alive with the sound of music from big names like Kelis and Example, as well as featuring up and coming bands from across the world. If you're a music fan, you have to be there.
Artists Open Houses
Over a thousand local artists open up their homes and studios to the public, every weekend in May from the 3rd. It gives people the opportunity to buy pieces of art direct from the artist and gain a bit of an insight into their world. It's a hugely popular festival for art lovers and the bohemian crowd Brighton attracts.
There are of course other great festivals and events in Brighton throughout the year. Gay Pride is one that's famous throughout the UK, Brighton Fashion Week in June, the Brighton Kite Festival in July, Brighton Racecourse Festival in August, the Food & Drink Festival in September, the Comedy Festival in October, Cinecity in November and Burning the Clocks in December, among numerous others. No matter what your taste in festivals and activities, Brighton is sure to have something just perfect for you.
