Our Europe travels; 48 hours in Barcelona with kids!

Last year while I was pregnant, we were lucky enough to do a little bit of travelling around Europe. It was a trip of a lifetime for us and we ticked 5 destinations of our bucket list which was unexpected but amazing! This post is going to be all about our time in Barcelona but you can read all about our Rome travel with kids here!

Barcelona was beautiful, we stayed in an air b'n'b close to the centre, it took us about 20-30 minutes to walk into the city & explore. We loved the graffiti and colours of it as well as the beautiful grounds around. We came upon Parc de la Ciutadella & I'm so glad we did.

It's 44 acres of beautiful outside space, the girls loved running around exploring which is great at sometimes sightseeing and city breaks can be a bit restrictive for the girls. It is home to the Castell dels Tres Dragons, the Umbracle (plant house) and Hivernacle (glass house). You could easily spend 2-3 hours here exploring and having a good walk! Just a short walk away is the Arc de Triomf which I'd also recommend. On the walk up to it there was a street entertainer blowing bubbles & the girls loved watching & playing with them.

We did a Withlocals tour of food tasting which was super fun. He knew all the best places to go & we tried things out of comfort zone, so did the girls! The girls also did it like a nature trail; ticking off the foods they found & tried & learnt some spanish too! We ended with some delicious Churros with melted chocolate which is a must.

A good tip to know is about the Barcelo Raval hotel in the main city. At the top of the hotel is the 360 rooftop bar - and it is free entry to everyone even if you are not staying at the hotel. Our tour guide just walked us right into the lift in the entrance and up to the top. They obviously serve drinks as it's a bar but we didn't spend a penny yet got to see Barcelona in a different light. I would definitely recommend trying to get up there if you can!

That completed our jam packed first day in Barcelona. On the second morning, we woke up & headed to meet another Withlocals tour guide at the train station. We took a train out of the centre to visit 'vine i apren jardineria'. This was more beautiful gardens which balanced our previous busy day out as again the girls had space to run & explore in a less busy surrounding. We also stopped in a park on the way there & back.

There was a maze, statues, ponds & waterfalls. Again we spent a few hours here having a lovely long slow walk.

From here our time was up & we headed straight back to the airport and onto our next destination but I think we spent our 48 hours wisely and saw some beautiful places.
